Production History

Over the decades, the Community Drama Association has been known as the Iowa Press and Authors’ Club, The Little Theatre Society of Des Moines, the Belle Kendall Community Playhouse, The Des Moines Community Playhouse, The Des Moines Playhouse, and The Playhouse. Early performances were held at City Auditorium, East High School, Hapac Grotto, the Unitarian Church, and Hoyt Sherman Place. In fall 1927, the theatre purchased a former church on 35th Street between Ingersoll and Grand avenues. In 1953, shows began in the present location on 42nd Street.
