Guys and Dolls, A Musical Fable of Broadway

Guys and Dolls opening postponed

The Des Moines Playhouse is postponing the opening of its fall musical, Guys and Dolls, by one week. The new performance dates are Sept. 16-Oct. 2, 2022. Several cast and crew members have tested positive for COVID-19. Following The Playhouse’s health protocols, the theatre is having to pause rehearsals this week. Ticket holders will be contacted with their new performance dates.

In a mythical New York City, gambler Nathan Detroit attempts to set up the biggest craps game in town while the authorities are breathing down his neck. He has another problem, too. Adelaide, nightclub performer and Nathan’s exasperated fiancée of 14 years, has nearly had it waiting for their wedding day to finally arrive. Nathan takes on another risk as he bets fellow gambler, Sky Masterson, that Sky can’t get a date with the pious leader of the Save-a-Soul Mission, Sarah Brown. This musical fable of 1930s Broadway is populated with colorful gamblers, showgirls, and missionaries plus classic songs like “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat,” “A Bushel and a Peck” and the showstopping “Luck Be a Lady.”

Please join us in the West Lobby 30 minutes prior to each curtain for a pre-show talk presented by Playhouse staff.
