The Des Moines Playhouse Production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast

Belle longs for adventure and an escape from her provincial town. A cruel and arrogant prince is trapped in a beastly form in his castle. Fate brings these two together. Can the Beast find someone to love ­– and love him in return – or will he remain a beast forever? Be our guest for this classic fairy tale based on the Academy Award-nominated Disney film.

Note: This production uses flashing lights and fog and contains a simulated gunshot.

To celebrate Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and the magic of reading, The Playhouse is teaming up with the Des Moines Public Library’s outreach and Rosie programs for a book drive. Guests are asked to bring new or gently used books to The Playhouse to be distributed around the community. The library is looking for books for infants through grade school – board books, picture storybooks, early readers, chapter books. Books can be donated from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, on weekdays in the ticket office, or during performances of Beauty and the Beast.

Due to construction, parking in the east parking lot may be limited. Valet parking is offered with a $5 discount when purchased in advance.

The Playhouse mission, as one of Iowa's largest and oldest producing theatres, is to create extraordinary, shared experiences through live theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
