The Des Moines Playhouse presents Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Dec.6-29, 2024. These dates include four performances just added due to advanced ticket sales. Tickets may be purchased online at dmplayhouse.com and by phone at 515.277.6261. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is sponsored by Corteva Agriscience.

Belle longs for adventure and an escape from her provincial town. A cruel and arrogant prince is trapped in a beastly form in his castle. Fate brings these two together. Can the Beast find someone to love – and love him in return – or will he remain a beast forever? Be our guest for this classic fairy tale based on the Academy Award-nominated Disney film.

The Playhouse cast includes Steve Betz, Aurora Navarro Cancel, Calvin Clark, Erin Davison-Rippey, Henry Davison-Rippey, Whit Ellsworth, Aubrey Falter, Ethan Fonseca, Adam Jackson, Meta Lobben, Alexander Lopez-Djukic, Natalie Jo Lourens, Cami Marquart, Greg Millar, Maggie Miller, Chandler Nye, Charlotte Proctor, Gavin Runles, Evan Schettler, Knox Schupbach, Alicia Kodá Scott, Jake Skarin, Andrew Smalley, Reese Taggart, Abbey Tauschen, Devon TeKolste, Josie Thompson, Dane Van Brocklin, and Stella Webster. Beauty and the Beast is directed by Nicholas Amundson with music direction by Katy Merriman, choreography by Michael Tomlinson, scenic design by Nicholas Amundson, costume design by Angela Lampe, and lighting design by Sam Stephen.

Local musicians will perform in the West Lobby 20 minutes prior to most performances.

To celebrate Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and the magic of reading, The Playhouse is teaming up with the Des Moines Public Library’s outreach and Rosie programs for a book drive. Guests are asked to bring new or gently used books to The Playhouse to be distributed around the community. The library is looking for books for infants through grade school – board books, picture storybooks, early readers, chapter books. Books can be donated from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, on weekdays in the ticket office, or during performances of Beauty and the Beast.

The Playhouse mission, as one of Iowa's largest and oldest producing theatres, is to create extraordinary, shared experiences through live theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.

• The IRIS Sensation Team will provide audio description for the 5:00 PM, Sunday, Dec. 22, performance.
• NEW! The Playhouse offers closed captioning for those with hearing loss or impairment.
• The Playhouse can provide for those who have the need for ASL translations with advanced notice.
