Audition Overview

• Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled audition time to check in.

• Upon arrival, you’ll sign in, receive a name tag, and have your photo taken (if you haven’t already provided one). You’ll be introduced to the production team present at the start of the audition.

• Please prepare 16–32 bars (30–45 seconds) of a song in the style of the show for your audition. Choose material that best showcases your voice. This usually is about the length of one verse plus a chorus of a given song.

• Walk-in auditions are welcome. Please arrive at 5:45 PM to sign up in person. Depending on availability, you may be asked to come back for a 7 pm or 8 pm spot. 

• If you are needed for callbacks, you will be notified by 12:00 PM on Tuesday December 8

• All who audition will receive an email regarding final casting, whether cast or not. The cast list will also be posted online.

• If you cannot attend in person, video auditions must be submitted by Monday December 7  at 6:00 PM to Derek Phelps at [email protected]

Synopsis: 

Anne Shirley is mistakenly sent to live with a plainspoken farmer and his spinster sister, who thought they were adopting a boy! She wins over the Cuthberts and all of Prince Edward Island with her irrepressible spirit and imagination — and wins over audiences with this warm, poignant story about love, home and family.

Description:  An intelligent, self-sufficient orphan whose bravery and kind heart bring a fresh outlook and bright light to those around her. Redheaded, freckled, and homely looking. Short temper. Talkative, chipper, and stubborn.
 
Matthew Cuthbert
Gender: Male
Age Range: 50 and up
Vocal Range: A3 –  F5
Description:  The warm-hearted and affectionate brother of Marilla. Shy and quiet, but quickly brought to life by Anne’s constant devotion. Gives way to Marilla’s wishes around the house and finds a kindred spirit in Anne.
 
Marilla Cuthbert
Gender: Female
Age Range: 50 and up
Vocal Range: A3 –  D5
Description:  An older woman whose stern exterior gives way to a warm and loyal heart. Owns Green Gables with her brother Matthew. Runs the household and holds her emotions in. Proud of Anne.
 
Gilbert Blythe
Gender: Male
Age Range: 16 – 20 
Vocal Range: B3 –  E5
Description:  A strong-willed and intelligent man who dreams of becoming a doctor. Rivals Anne for top marks in school. His heart is quickly captured by Anne. Self-assured. Charming. Hard working.
 
Diana Barry
Gender: Female
Age Range: 14 – 18
Vocal Range: A3 –  E5
Description:  Brought up in a more traditional home, she is captivated by Anne and becomes her best friend. Sweet and caring. Pretty but in no way vain.
 
Rachel Lynde
Gender: Female
Age Range: 35 – 55
Vocal Range: G3 –  D5
Description: Marilla’s friend and busybody neighbor. Warns the Cuthberts against taking in an orphan, but is eventually won over. Gossips and over-exaggerates. Makes fun of Anne’s physical shortcomings when she has some of her own.
 
Mrs. Barry 
Gender: Female
Age Range: 35 – 55
Vocal Range: A3 –  C5
Description: Diana’s mother. Worries about her daughter’s associations. Fussy nature gives way to an open heart when Anne saves her youngest daughter.
 
Josie Pye
Gender: Female
Age Range: 14 – 18
Vocal Range: E4 –  E5
Description: An Avonlea schoolgirl who antagonizes Anne Shirley and vies for Gilbert’s attentions. Not particularly smart or hard working. Aloof. A party girl who is brash and effortlessly abrasive.
 
Mr. Phillips
Gender: Male
Age Range: 40 – 60 
Vocal Range: B3 –  G5
Description: The schoolmaster. He is a kind man, but insists on respect and good behavior from his students and sometimes must be accordingly harsh with them.
