By the Way Meet Vera Stark

Onyx Script Reading Series focuses on scripts that illuminate black voices. Hosted by actor/director Miriam Randolph, it will be held the first Tuesday and third Sunday of the month. Actors will read from scripts; there are no costumes or scenery pieces.

Vera Stark is a maid and budding actress during the Golden Age of Hollywood who lands a role as a slave in an epic starring her boss, whose career is fading. Vera’s portrayal is groundbreaking. For decades scholars and film buffs discuss her legacy and the impact of race on her career.
